Flight experience at the Airport Graz in 2008

Welcome visitors !

During my holidays in Graz in August 2008 I booked a trial flight at the Steirische Motorflugunion at the airport Graz Thalerhof. During this event you will receive an introduction to flying at a flight simulator and also a 30 minutes round trip in a real plane.

Here are some pictures from this event
(to display in original size please click on the photos)

In the office of the Motorflugunion you find a big poster with the cockpit of a Cessna aircraft

The flight simulator is mainly used for practicing IFR navigation. In addition  you get a good overview of the main flight instruments. The simulator is based on Microsoft's flight simulator 2004.

We are flying with a Cessna 152, call sign OE-CGD.

The airplane is parked in a cylindrical hangar. For easy access to the planes the round floor plate can be moved electrically and the planes will be transported directly to the gate.

I prefered to fly the plane instead of taking pictures from the cockpit and the landscape this time. Maybe I can show you more pictures from Graz after my next flight.

After having received the clearance from the tower we taxied to the beginning of the grass strip 35R and took off towards north. We climbed to 2500 feet, overflew the Plabutsch in 3000 feet and proceeded north to Gratwein. From there we headed towards Lassnitzhöhe and practiced some basic maneuvers like full turns with various bank angles.

From above the health resort at Laßnitzhöhe we requested from the tower approval for entering the control zone and headed back towards the airport. At the Magna factory we turned south into the downwind leg of the trafic circuit for 35R. At Kalsdorf we turned left into the base leg and then we aligned onto final for the landing on 35R. On final approach we had some gusty cross wind from the right with 15 knots. Nethertheless with the help of my flight instructor we did quite a good landing.

To sum up this event:  it has made much fun and it will have been definitely not my last flight in Graz. I intend to book my next flight during my next stay in Graz.

Hope you enjoyed my report.
