One of the courses which are offered in the adult education
program here in Unterschleißheim is a trial flight with a Microlight airplane.
The course is offered by the
Fliegerclubs Wasentergernbach e.V. The first part was an evening event during which the theory of Microlight
flying has been discussed. The practical part took place on the airport of
Landshut on June 27th 2009. In addition to the flight we had the opportunity to
visit the tower and to speak with the controller. Besides that we were allowed
to visit the hangar in which the ADAC rescue helicopters are serviced and
repaired.

On final approach to runway 07 |
Flight details:
having finished the before-takeoff checklists we requested clearance from the tower for an extented trafic circuit. Due to the light easterly wind we taxied to runway 07 and took off towards East. After the climb to 2500 ft we turned towards North and stayed west of the A92 motorway. Because of the low cloud ceiling we were unable to continue with our climb and stayed in about 400 m AGL.
When returning to the airport we joined the downwind leg of the circuit pattern, contacted the tower and landed savely on runway 07.
To sum upt: My first flight with a Microlight airplane made a lot of fun. The flight feeling is similar to the one in a Cessna, however it is much cheaper to maintain and fly an Microlight airplane. This has for sure not been my last flight with such a plane.
During the flight I had my GPS Tracker with me. That's why I can show you the flightpath in Google Maps:
